The Greater Noida Authority, which supplies water to the residential complex, has taken swift action by launching an investigation. N G Ravi Kumar, Chief Executive Officer of the Authority, ordered the water supply department to inspect the site and conduct water quality tests.
“We have directed the water supply department to visit the site immediately and investigate the matter,” said Kumar. He emphasized that the water samples have been sent for lab testing, and further action will be based on the results. Preliminary reports suggested no issue with the water supply from the Authority’s end, shifting the focus of the investigation to the society’s internal water management systems.
Jitendra Gautam, General Manager of the Water Supply Department, clarified that the Greater Noida Authority is only responsible for supplying water up to the society’s reservoir. The management of water distribution to individual homes within the complex, including the maintenance and cleaning of water tanks, is handled by the society’s Apartment Owners Association (AOA) or the builder.
Residents have voiced concerns over the society’s management practices, especially regarding the cleaning of water tanks. Some allege that the cleaning was done hastily and without following proper protocols. Pradhan, a resident of C2 tower, said, “The notice mentioned that the water tanks would be cleaned, and supply would be restored by 7 pm. But when I checked the tap at 2 pm, water was already flowing, which suggests that the remaining water in the tank was not cleared after cleaning.”
District Collector Manish Kumar Verma assured residents that action would be taken against those responsible for the society’s water management. “The responsibility of cleaning the water tanks lies with the estate department of the society. We are investigating what chemicals were used in the cleaning process and if there were any lapses in protocol,” Verma said.
As the investigation continues, the society’s admin team has urged residents to avoid consuming the water supplied to their homes. Mohammed Imran, the admin executive at Supertech Ecovillage 2, said, “We are not yet certain about the exact cause of the health problems, but we have advised residents not to drink the water until the sample reports are out.”
The society has been on high alert since the outbreak, with authorities focusing on determining the source of the contamination. The final report from the water sample tests will be crucial in identifying the exact cause and assigning responsibility for the health scare.
The situation at Supertech Ecovillage 2 has left residents anxious and searching for answers. With more than 300 people affected, including a significant number of children, the probe’s findings will be vital in preventing future occurrences. For now, residents are relying on bottled water and hoping for swift action from the authorities to resolve the issue and ensure the safety of their water supply.
