The FDA and USDA continue to examine outbreaks, with the sources of the pathogens remaining unknown. The Food Safety and Inspection Service of the USDA has given very little information about the incident it is looking into other than to identify the disease as E. coli in beef. The organization has not disclosed how many people have fallen ill or where they reside.

The Food and Drug Administration has started collecting samples and conducting analyses in an outbreak connected to enoki mushrooms. At least two states have seen illnesses related to the Listeria monocytogenes outbreak.

Salmonella Typhimurium has affected 270 people, but the FDA has not released information about their ages or states of residency. Although the outbreak has been declared to be resolved, FDA investigators are still trying to understand what caused it.

Ongoing Outbreak:

  • Listeria monocytogenes outbreak linked to Brie and Camembert cheese. Seven patients from six different states were confirmed ill and according to the CDC, five people have been hospitalized.
  • At least four newborns, two of whom died, were found to have Cronobacter infections.  The babies consumed infant formula produced at the Abbott Nutrition facility in Sturgis, Michigan.
  • The FDA collaborate with the CDC on an investigation into an outbreak of Salmonella infections linked to seafood. A total of 33 individuals have been confirmed in California, Illinois, and Arizona, with 13 of them requiring hospitalization. More than 150 tons of a variety of seafood that was supplied by Mariscos Bahia, Inc. has been recalled.
