The White Spot Syndrome Virus (WSSV) was discovered in frozen Indian shrimp, as a result, the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) temporarily ban shrimp imports from India.
The White Spot Syndrome is brought on by a virus that infects penaeid prawns. Shrimp are quickly killed by the deadly and highly contagious disease. The SFDA stated that the restriction would be in place until the Indian side provided reasonable assurances for the security of the goods shipped to the Kingdom in order to stop the WSSV from spreading to Saudi Arabia’s fisheries.
According to a statement from the authorities, the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture was given instructions to collect samples of marine products, including prawns imported through border crossings.
