The Salmonella outbreak in Sweden has been steadily increasing.

165,000 laying hens have been slaughtered.

The Swedish Public Health Agency reported 76 persons were unwell, up from 48 in the previous update. The strain of salmonella has been confirmed in 16 patients from different regions. There are 36 women and 40 men among those who were ill between early December 2022 and the end of January 2023. They range in age from one to 91 years old, with a median age of 35. The number of persons sickened in a Salmonella outbreak linked to eggs in Sweden has risen to nearly 80. This outbreak was investigated by the Swedish agency for agriculture, regional and local authorities, and the public health agency of Sweden.


During a routine sampling check at CA Cedergren, salmonella was discovered. After that Swedish agency for agriculture said to slaughter 165,000 laying hens. According to the national control program, it is strange to find salmonella in Swedish eggs. the majority of people who become ill are infected overseas or by imported food. This outbreak has been connected to recalled eggs from Coop, Axfood, ICA, Lidl, and Kronägg.


Because of the recalls, there should be no contaminated eggs in stores or restaurants, but if you still have them at home then discard them and not consume them.

Salmonella Infection:
Poultry items can carry salmonella and these germs can spread from birds to their eggs. Always handle poultry items carefully to prevent illness. Salmonella can infect eggshells when birds lay eggs or when the eggs come into contact with bird droppings after being laid. Common symptoms of salmonella include fever, diarrhea, and stomach cramps. Symptoms begin from 12 hours to 72 hours after ingestion of food contaminated with salmonella and last for 4 to 7 days.


Anyone who has experienced Salmonella food poisoning symptoms should contact a doctor. Salmonellosis must be diagnosed with specialized testing; therefore, sick persons should inform their doctors if they believe they may have been exposed to Salmonella bacteria. Salmonella infection symptoms frequently cause misdiagnosis since they can resemble those of other infections.

People with compromised immune systems, such as cancer patients, youngsters, older adults, and pregnant women are more susceptible to developing serious, occasionally life-threatening illnesses. Some individuals contract an infection without becoming ill or exhibiting any symptoms. They might nonetheless continue to infect others.
