Malaysian Health Ministry Confirms Recalled Instant Noodles over cancer concerns are safe to eat.

On May 9, Malaysia’s health ministry announced that two types of instant noodles; Penang Ah Lai White Curry Noodles and Indomie Special Chicken Flavour Instant Noodles. But now, The Ministry of Health confirms that the products comply with the applicable legislation and are safe to eat, Malaysia’s director-general of health Muhammad Radzi Abu Hassan said in a statement based on the laboratory study that was performed on the samples. The health ministry executes six layers of inspection on imported food products at the country’s entrance points based on risk.  Products that do not adhere to the rules are taken off the market.

37 of the 317 samples examined between April 2022 and April 2023 under Level 5 inspection, which is Hold, Test, and Release (TUL), were instant noodles from different brands that were evaluated for ethylene oxide characteristics.

On Apr 26, the health ministry ordered a recall of Penang Ah Lai White Curry Noodles and Indomie Special Chicken Flavour Instant Noodles.  It came two days after Taipei’s Department of Health said batches of the products contained ethylene oxide. The findings were part of the city’s inspection of instant noodles in Taipei. The products’ importers will reportedly be fined between NT$60,000 (US$1,950) and NT$200 million.
