FSSAI Seizes 45 Metric Ton of Expired Beer: INDIA

January 25, 2024

In a decisive move against the violation of food safety regulations, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), in conjunction with Customs officials, executed a joint operation on Thursday, 11th January, 2024, at the Public Bonded Warehouse in Dwarka, New Delhi. The operation revealed a blatant breach of the Food Safety and Standards (FSS) Act of 2006.

During the inspection, authorities uncovered a massive stockpile of 45 metric tonnes of expired beer, belonging to a popular brand, with an estimated market value of Rs. 1 crore. The discovery prompted swift action from FSSAI, under the watchful eye of Ms. S. Vijayarani, the Director of the Northern Region. All expired products were promptly seized in adherence to the FSS Act, 2006, and will undergo further investigation.

FSSAI is currently engaged in a thorough inquiry to determine the full extent of the violation and to take appropriate actions within the existing regulatory framework. The crackdown underscores FSSAI’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of consumers by rigorously enforcing regulations and promptly addressing violations by Food Business Operators (FBOs).

The regulatory authority encourages consumers to remain vigilant and report any instances of food safety concerns. This proactive approach is crucial to maintaining the highest standards of food safety across the country. FSSAI remains steadfast in its dedication to upholding these standards and will not hesitate to take stringent actions against FBOs found in violation of regulatory provisions.
