FDA Warns Against Diamond Shruumz Products Following Hospitalizations Across Multiple States

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have issued an urgent warning regarding Diamond Shruumz-brand Chocolate Bars, Cones, and Gummies. These products have been linked to severe illnesses, prompting consumers to avoid eating, selling, or serving them.

Illnesses Reported

As of June 10, 2024, 12 individuals across eight states have reported severe adverse reactions after consuming Diamond Shruumz-brand products. The affected states include:

  • Alabama (1)
  • Arizona (4)
  • Indiana (2)
  • Kentucky (1)
  • Missouri (1)
  • Nevada (1)
  • Pennsylvania (1)
  • South Carolina (1)

All affected individuals sought medical care, and 10 of them required hospitalization. Fortunately, no deaths have been reported thus far. The onset of the most recent illness occurred on June 9, 2024.

Reported Symptoms

Consumers who have ingested these products have experienced a variety of severe symptoms, including:

  • Seizures
  • Central nervous system depression (e.g., loss of consciousness, confusion, sleepiness)
  • Agitation
  • Abnormal heart rates
  • Hypertension or hypotension
  • Nausea and vomiting

Distribution and Retail

Diamond Shruumz-brand products, known for their microdosing chocolate bars, infused cones, and gummies, have been distributed nationwide. They are available both online and in retail locations, including smoke and vape shops, as well as stores specializing in hemp-derived products like cannabidiol (CBD) and delta-8 tetrahydrocannabinol (delta-8 THC). The FDA has not yet identified a complete list of retailers.

FDA Recommendations

The FDA has issued the following recommendations to mitigate further risks:

  • Consumers: Do not eat any flavor of Diamond Shruumz-brand Chocolate Bars, Cones, or Gummies. If these products are found at home, they should be discarded immediately. Anyone who has become ill after consuming these products should seek medical attention and inform their healthcare provider about their recent consumption of Diamond Shruumz-brand products.
  • Retailers: Cease selling or distributing any flavor of Diamond Shruumz-brand products. These products should be secured until further instructions are provided regarding their return or disposal.
  • Healthcare Providers: Report any illnesses related to these products to local health departments or the Poison Help Line at 1-800-222-1222.

The FDA’s investigation is ongoing, and they are evaluating appropriate next steps to address the situation. Consumers are urged to stay informed through official updates and strictly adhere to these recommendations to prevent further illnesses.
