Coffee Recall Update as FDA Sets Concern Level

June 18, 2024

A Texas-based firm, Waco Bottling LLC, has voluntarily recalled a batch of its TryBrewed Coffee Concentrate (6oz/177ml) due to the absence of an ingredient statement and nutrition label. This recall, involving 321 cases or 3,852 bottles, distributed nationwide via Amazon, was initiated on Monday. Newsweek has reached out to Waco Bottling LLC for comment.

FDA Classification: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has classified the recall as Class III, indicating that “use of or exposure to a violative product is not likely to cause adverse health consequences.”

The FDA’s recall classifications are as follows:

  • Class I: A situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of or exposure to a violative product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death.
  • Class II: Use of or exposure to a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences, or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.
  • Class III: Use of or exposure to a violative product is not likely to cause adverse health consequences.

Impact on Consumers: Products without ingredient information pose risks, particularly for individuals with allergies, dietary restrictions, or those monitoring their caloric intake. The FDA issues recalls in such cases to ensure consumer safety.

The FDA is responsible for ensuring that foods sold in the U.S. are safe, wholesome, and properly labeled, under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FD&C Act) and the Fair Packaging and Labeling Act. Common reasons for missing ingredient labels include human error during packaging or label shortages.
