A social media influencer’s allegation that Bournvita, a health drink brand owned by Mondelez India, has a high sugar content has been refuted. In a video, the influencer Revant Himatsingka alleged that Bournvita contained sugar, cocoa solids, and a colorant that causes cancer.

In a statement, Bournvita claimed that over the past seven decades, it’s scientifically formulated products that uphold high standards of quality and conform to local laws have earned the trust of Indian consumers.

A group of food scientists and nutritionists worked together to create the formulation, which offers the best in terms of both taste and health. All of the claims are transparent and each ingredient has received regulatory approval. For consumers to make educated decisions, all the necessary nutritional information is listed on the package, according to a Bournvita spokesperson.

The manufacturer emphasized that each 20-gram serving of Bournvita contains only 7.5 grams of added sugar, which is significantly less than the daily recommended intake limits for children. The company also stated that all ingredients are safe and permitted for use and that the colorant, caramel color (150 C), is within permissible limits as defined by regulations.
