Issue

The recall initially issued on December 2, 2024, has been expanded to include slicer cucumbers. The additional product was identified during the CFIA’s ongoing food safety investigation. The cucumbers may contain Salmonella, a bacterium that can cause serious illness, particularly in vulnerable groups such as young children, pregnant women, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems.

Health Risks

While Salmonella-contaminated food may not appear spoiled, consuming it can lead to:

  • Short-term symptoms: Fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea.
  • Long-term complications: Severe arthritis in some cases.

What to Do

Consumers are advised to:

  1. Check for recalled products: Verify the product codes, brand, and purchase dates.
  2. Do not consume the recalled cucumbers.
  3. Dispose of or return any affected product to the location of purchase.
  4. Contact a healthcare provider if symptoms appear after consuming the product.
  5. If unsure whether you purchased a recalled product, contact your retailer for clarification.
