Kwik Trip, Inc. has announced a voluntary recall of specific fresh-cut fruit cup and tray products due to potential Salmonella contamination. The recall is prompted by the expanded recall of fresh, whole cantaloupes by TruFresh, a supplier to Kwik Trip, Inc., with concerns about Salmonella presence.
Products Affected:
The affected products were distributed to Kwik Trip, Kwik Star, Stop-N-Go, Tobacco Outlet Plus Grocery, and Tobacco Outlet Plus convenience stores in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Michigan, Illinois, and South Dakota.
Risk and Symptoms: Salmonella can cause severe infections, particularly in vulnerable populations. Symptoms include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In rare cases, it can lead to more severe conditions such as arterial infections, endocarditis, and arthritis. As of now, there have been no reported illnesses associated with the recalled fruit cup and tray products.
Consumers, restaurants, retailers, and wholesalers are advised not to consume, sell, or serve the recalled cantaloupe or products containing cantaloupe. Consumers should check their freezers for frozen cantaloupe and discard any recalled products. If customers possess the affected products, they are urged to discard them immediately or return them to the point of purchase for a full refund.
