Sona Red Yeast Rice Food Supplement is recalling all batches of its Red Yeast Rice Standardised Monacolin K food supplement due to elevated levels of monacolin K. This compound, when consumed in amounts exceeding 3mg per day, may lead to adverse health effects.

Nature of Danger:

Excessive consumption of monacolin K from red yeast rice supplements can cause various adverse effects, including:

  • Gastrointestinal issues (e.g., diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain)
  • Musculoskeletal and connective tissue disorders (e.g., myalgia)
  • Hepatobiliary disorders
  • Skin and subcutaneous tissue disorders

Action Required:

  • Retailers: Remove the implicated product from sale and display recall notices at point-of-sale.
  • Wholesalers/Distributors: Contact affected customers, recall the product, and provide point-of-sale recall notices to retailer customers.

Consumer Advice:

Consumers are advised not to take the affected product. If you have already consumed it and are experiencing any symptoms, please consult a healthcare provider. Return the product to the retailer for a full refund.
