Recall Alert: Woolworths Pickled Onions Voluntarily Recalled Over Possible Glass Contamination

July 18, 2023 New Zealand

In a recent development, the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) has issued a warning regarding Woolworths’ brand Pickled Onions, imported from India and sold across New Zealand. The popular product, available in 500g glass jars, has been voluntarily recalled due to the potential presence of glass fragments, which pose a health hazard to consumers.

The affected pickled onions, distributed to Countdown, SuperValue, and FreshChoice stores nationwide, bear Best Before dates of 23/11/2024, 24/11/2024, and 25/11/2024. The MPI has strongly advised against consuming pickled onions from the impacted batches and has urged customers to return the product to the store of purchase for a full refund.

Although no injuries have been reported thus far, the MPI has encouraged individuals who have consumed the product and have concerns about their health to seek immediate medical advice. The recall serves as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of consumers.

What consumers should do?

Glass contamination can potentially lead to various health risks, including cuts, lacerations, and internal injuries if ingested. Woolworths and the MPI are working diligently to investigate the source of the issue and prevent any further distribution of the affected product.

Consumers who have purchased Woolworths’ Pickled Onions with the specified Best Before dates are urged to check their jars and take the necessary precautions. The safety and well-being of customers remain the top priority for both Woolworths and the MPI.

For further information and updates on this recall, customers can contact Woolworths’ customer service helpline.
