Safari Meats and SA Shop Limited have announced a recall of all batches and dates of their Safari Meats brand ready-to-eat cured meat products, including Biltong, Cabanossi, Droëwors, and other cured meats, due to inadequate food safety controls.

Products Affected:

The recall affects various ready-to-eat cured meat products under the Safari Meats brand, including but not limited to:

  • Babbellas Mix
  • Bacon Biltong
  • Biltong
  • Blades
  • Cabanossi
  • Chillibites
  • Dollars
  • Droëwors
  • Droëwors Gluten Free
  • Spicy Biltong
  • Sweetsticks
  • Venison Biltong
  • Venison Droewors

All batches and dates of these products are included in the recall, with no exceptions. Products have been sold in various weights at multiple retailers throughout New Zealand and online via the Safari Meats & SA Shop Online Webstore.

  • Biltong Plus, Wellsford
  • Bin Inn Rolleston, Rolleston
  • Blenheim Mart, Blenheim
  • Gillies Automotive, Oamaru
  • Ma Fullers SA Pantry, Kaiapoi
  • Morgans Road Food Market, Timaru
  • Produce Pals Fruit “n” Veges, Ashburton
  • Rangiora Produce Market Ltd, Rangiora
  • Safari Treats Nelson, Nelson
  • The Saucy Saffa, Mosgiel

Consumer Guidance:

Consumers are advised not to consume any of the affected products. If you have purchased any of these items, return them to the retailer for a full refund. Reports of illness have been associated with these products, and New Zealand Food Safety is actively investigating. If you have consumed any of these products and are experiencing health concerns, please seek medical advice immediately.

Retailers selling these products are required to display a Food Recall Notice in their stores for at least one month to inform customers about the recall.
