Raw Milk Cheese Recalled Due to Yersinia enterocolitica

Sheridans Cheesemongers has issued an updated recall notice for Marcel Petite Mont D’or raw milk cheese due to the presence of the harmful bacteria Yersinia enterocolitica. This follows the initial alert (2024.57) and now includes all batches sold between 16 September 2024 and 21 November 2024.

  • Product Name: Marcel Petite Mont D’or, Fruitier Des Jarrons
  • Pack Sizes: All sizes, including freshly cut pieces wrapped in Sheridan’s cheese paper or 500g units.
  • Country of Origin: France

Risk:
Yersinia enterocolitica is a bacteria that can cause yersiniosis, a foodborne illness. Symptoms typically appear 3-7 days after consuming contaminated food and include:Fever, Abdominal cramps, Watery or bloody diarrhea, Vomiting, Headaches

Symptoms may persist for 1-3 days, but in severe cases, they can last up to three weeks. Young children, older adults, and immunocompromised individuals are at higher risk of complications.

Advice to Consumers:

  • Do Not Eat: Consumers are urged to avoid consuming the affected cheese.
  • Return or Dispose: If you have purchased the implicated cheese, return it to the point of purchase or safely dispose of it.

Advice to Retailers and Caterers:

  • Remove all affected cheese from sale immediately.
  • Display recall notices prominently at points of sale.

Sheridans Cheesemongers is cooperating fully with the authorities to ensure consumer safety. Anyone experiencing symptoms after consuming the product should seek medical advice promptly.
