Peanuts Recalled Due to Aflatoxin Contamination: New Zealand

April 8, 2024 New Zealand

Prolife Foods Limited, a New Zealand-based company, has issued a recall for specific batches of its Value Pack and Refill Pack products containing peanuts. This recall comes after the discovery that these products contain levels of aflatoxin above the allowable limit.

Aflatoxins are naturally occurring toxins produced by certain molds that typically grow on foods in hot and tropical climates. While New Zealand generally maintains low levels of aflatoxin in its food supply, prolonged consumption of products with elevated levels can pose health risks.

The affected products include:

  • Value Pack brand Nuts and Raisins 400g
  • Value Pack brand Roasted Salted Peanuts 400g (with Best Before dates of 08 OCT 2024 and 15 OCT 2024)
  • Value Pack brand Roasted Salted Peanuts 750g (Best Before 08 OCT 2024)
  • Refill Pack Roasted Nut Mix 850g (Best Before 05 OCT 2024)
  • Refill Pack Raw Nut Mix 850g (Best Before 05 OCT 2024)

These products were distributed to selected supermarkets and retail outlets across New Zealand, excluding Countdown and Woolworths stores. Customers are advised to check the date markings on the packaging and return any affected products to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Prolife Foods Limited has displayed Food Recall Notices at all stores where the affected products were sold. Consumers who have consumed any of the recalled products and have concerns about their health are encouraged to seek medical advice.

For further information or inquiries, customers can contact Prolife Foods Limited at 0800 35 23 52 or via email at customerservices@profile.co.nz.

The company urges consumers to prioritize food safety and emphasizes the importance of promptly addressing any potential health risks associated with contaminated products.
