The Ice Cream House Recalls Products Due to Listeria Monocytogenes Concern

August 31, 2023 USA

Listeriosis Treatment

The Ice Cream House is taking immediate action by voluntarily recalling all Dairy Ice Cream Products and Non-dairy [Parve] Frozen Dessert Products due to a potential health risk associated with Listeria monocytogenes. Listeria monocytogenes is a microorganism that can lead to severe infections, especially in vulnerable populations. While healthy individuals might experience short-term symptoms like fever and gastrointestinal issues, the risk is notably higher for young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. Pregnant women are also at risk, as Listeria infection can result in miscarriages and stillbirths.

Affected Products and Distribution: The products in question were distributed through The Ice Cream House in Brooklyn and various retail supermarkets across New York, New Jersey, and Ohio.

Recall Background: This recall is linked to the Soft Serve on the go cups, previously recalled by Real Kosher Ice Cream, Inc. This ongoing investigation stems from reported cases of illness in multiple states (New York and Pennsylvania). Although two individuals required hospitalization, no fatalities have been reported thus far. In response, The Ice Cream House has ceased the production and distribution of the affected items.

Identifying Recalled Products: All Ice Cream House branded items currently on the market are being recalled. This includes Dairy and Non-Dairy [Parve] products, such as ice creams, cakes, logs, and novelty items, bearing the “Ice Cream House” logo. The products are available in various packaging styles and sizes, featuring the Ice Cream House label. Notably, these products lack lot or date codes.

Consumer Action: If you have purchased any of the recalled products, it’s crucial to take the following steps:

  1. Discontinue Consumption: If you suspect a Dairy Ice Cream or Non-Dairy [Parve] Frozen Dessert product in your possession is part of the recall, cease consumption immediately.
  2. Return or Dispose: Return the recalled products to their point of purchase for a full refund or replacement. If returning the products is not possible, dispose of them safely.
  3. Check Freezers: Ice cream products can have extended shelf lives. Check your freezer for any recalled items and either discard them or return them to the store.

Contact Information: For inquiries or concerns, please contact The Ice Cream House through email at ICHrecall@gmail.com or call 845-445-7644 from Monday to Thursday between 9 AM and 5 PM.
