Hepatitis A: Pams brand frozen berries recalled

In order to be safe, Foodstuffs Own Brands Ltd. is recalling all batches and all dates of its Pams brand Mixed Berries, Two Berry Mix, Smoothie Berry Mix, and Raspberries. This is because frozen berries imported from Serbia may be linked to Hepatitis A.

They are imported goods. The goods can be purchased in Trents Wholesale, Raeward Fresh, Pak’n Save, New World, and Four-Square stores around New Zealand’s South Island. The goods have not been exported again.

The examination of the hepatitis source conducted by New Zealand Food Safety A contaminant is still present. The situation could alter because this is a developing problem.

Consumer advice:

• Before consuming frozen berries, give them a quick boil or, if you have a cooking thermometer at home, make sure the temperature is higher than 85 degrees Celsius for one minute. Berries that have been heated up securely freeze again for later use.
• To ensure that berries are thoroughly cooked in the microwave, mix them halfway through the cooking time. The key is to make sure the berries reach boiling, regardless of the microwave’s settings. Prior to eating and preparing meals, wash your hands.

This recommendation applies to all frozen fruit products until and unless a definitive source is found. In New Zealand, there have been reports of possible contagious illnesses. Consult a doctor if you have consumed any of these goods and have any health issues. Customers also have the option to return the items to their shop for a complete refund.
