New Orleans, LA – Freshy Foods, LLC, a food manufacturing company, has issued a voluntary recall of various Team Fresh & Go brand fruit cups due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. The recall, initiated on June 29, 2023, is ongoing and affects select products distributed to facilities in Florida, Louisiana, and Mississippi.
Listeria monocytogenes is a bacteria that can cause serious and potentially life-threatening infections, especially in vulnerable populations such as pregnant women, the elderly, young children, and individuals with weakened immune systems. Even though the products in question are past their expiration dates, there is concern that consumers might still have these products in their possession.
Products recalled:
The affected products include 214 units of 12oz Pineapple Cups with a “Best By” date of 07/05/23, 249 units of 16oz Mixed Fruit Cups with the same “Best By” date, and 75 units of 12oz Cantaloupe Cups also expiring by 07/05/23. Sold individually, these plastic-cupped products pose a risk of Listeria monocytogenes infection, which can lead to serious health issues.
Consumers who have purchased these items are advised to dispose of them immediately and should be vigilant for symptoms associated with Listeria exposure.
About Listeria infections:
Listeria infections may not exhibit visible signs of spoilage in the food’s appearance or smell. Symptoms of Listeria infection can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache, and neck stiffness. If anyone who has consumed the recalled fruit cups develops these symptoms, medical attention should be sought, and medical professionals should be informed about potential Listeria exposure.
It’s important to note that symptoms of listeriosis, the infection caused by Listeria monocytogenes, can develop up to 70 days after exposure. Pregnant women, the elderly, young children, and individuals with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk of severe illness and complications resulting from Listeria infection.
Customers who have consumed the recalled products should monitor themselves for symptoms over the next several weeks and consult a medical professional if any symptoms arise. Diagnosis of Listeria infections requires specific laboratory tests, as the symptoms can resemble those of other illnesses.
