Ethylene Oxide: Recall of two Mie Sedaap spicy noodle products from Indonesia
As of October 8, 2022: The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) has expanded the recall to include two more Mie Sedaap items from Indonesia due to the presence of ethylene oxide as a follow-up to our media notice on October 6, 2022. The SFA has ordered Arklife Distributors Pte Ltd to recall both the Curry and Mie Sedaap Soto flavors of instant noodles. There has been a recall.
SFA is still putting various Mie Sedaap quick noodle products through regulatory testing. In order to identify and address the ethylene oxide contamination’s root source, we are also collaborating with Indonesian authorities, importers, and authorities. SFA will start recalling the implicated products if ethylene oxide is found in excess of the permitted maximum values.
Product Details:
Ethylene Oxide:
A pesticide that is not permitted for use in food is ethylene oxide. Agricultural products can be fumigated with it to avoid microbial infestation. Ethylene oxide may be used to sterilise spices in accordance with Singapore’s food regulations. Spices should not contain more ethylene oxide than the Maximum Residue Limit (MRL) of 50 mg/kg (50ppm).
Although eating food tainted with low quantities of ethylene oxide poses little immediate risk, continued exposure could have negative health effects. Therefore, it is advisable to limit exposure to this drug.
Consumer Advice:
It is not advisable for consumers who have purchased the involved products to ingest them. People who have taken allegedly dangerous items and are worried about their health should consult a doctor. For questions, customers can get in touch with the place of purchase.
