A food item may be “withdrawn” or “recalled” if there is a fault with it that makes it unsafe to sell. To inform consumers and local authorities of issues with food, the FSA releases Product Withdrawal Information Notices and Product Recall Information Notices. A “Food Alert for Action” may occasionally be issued. This gives local authorities information on the precise steps that should be performed on behalf of consumers.
