In response to concerns over potential Salmonella contamination, Fresh Start Foods has issued a recall of their brand of cantaloupe, further widening the scope of recent cantaloupe recalls in Canada. This move comes in the wake of similar recalls by Gordon Food Services, North American Produce Sales in Canada, and Eagle Produce LLC in the United States, all linked to the Kandy brand cantaloupe.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) reports that the affected cantaloupe was distributed in the provinces of Alberta and British Columbia, Canada.

About Salmonella Infections: Salmonella-contaminated food may not exhibit any unusual appearance, smell, or taste, making detection difficult. Anyone, regardless of age or health, can fall ill due to a Salmonella infection. However, the risk of severe illness is higher for infants, children, seniors, and individuals with weakened immune systems.
Individuals who have consumed the recalled cantaloupe and subsequently experienced symptoms of a Salmonella infection should seek medical attention. It is essential for affected individuals to inform their healthcare providers about potential Salmonella exposure, as specialized tests are necessary for diagnosis. Symptoms of Salmonella infection typically manifest as diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever within 12 to 72 hours after consuming contaminated food. In most cases, healthy adults experience illness for about four to seven days. However, severe cases of diarrhea may require hospitalization.
It is worth noting that older adults, children, pregnant women, and individuals with compromised immune systems, such as cancer patients, are more susceptible to severe illness and potentially life-threatening complications.
Furthermore, some individuals infected with Salmonella may remain asymptomatic but can still transmit the infection to others. Vigilance and caution are encouraged to mitigate the risk of further illness.
