Updated 9 August 2022: Due to the potential presence of Salmonella, this recall has been expanded to cover more goods, including the Algota brand Halvah Tahini and Algota brand Halvah with Pistachio.

29 July 2022: Middle East Ltd is recalling particular lots of its Sesame Tahini under the Algota brand due to the potential for Salmonella contamination.

Product type: Sesame-based products

Name of the product:

  1. Algota brand Halvah Tahini
  2. Algota brand Halvah with Pistachio
  3. Algota brand Sesame Tahini

Batch marking: 498 & 359

Package size: The products are offered for sale in a plastic bucket or container in a variety of packaging size variations.

Distribution: The goods are imported from Syria.  The goods are offered for sale in Wellington’s Middle Eastern Market, 140 Riddiford Street.  No re-exports of the goods have taken place.

Consumer advice: Customers are urged to look at the batch number on the product’s front. Consuming impacted products is not advised. In New Zealand, there have been reports of concomitant sickness. Consult a doctor if you have consumed any of these goods and have any health issues. For a complete refund, customers should return the goods to their vendor.
