Wayne Farms LLC, based in Decatur, AL, is recalling 1,377 pounds of frozen ready-to-eat chicken breast products due to concerns of undercooking. The specific products affected are 9-lb. cardboard boxes containing 12 packs of 3 “CHEF’S LINE FIRE GRILLED CHICKEN BREAST,” with lot codes 3723289239002 and 3723289239003, and a USE BY date of 01/14/24.
These items, produced on October 16, 2023, bear the establishment number “P-20214” on the case labels. They were distributed to Illinois distributor locations and further destined for various food service establishments.
The recall was prompted by a customer complaint reporting the appearance of undercooked chicken in the RTE products. Fortunately, there have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions resulting from the consumption of these products at this time.
However, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is concerned that some of the recalled products may be present in institutional or restaurant refrigerators or freezers. As a precautionary measure, FSIS advises restaurants and institutions not to serve these products. Instead, they should be either discarded or returned to the place of purchase.
Consumers who are concerned about potential illness resulting from the consumption of these products are encouraged to contact their healthcare provider. The FSIS continues to monitor the situation and emphasizes the importance of proper handling and cooking practices for ready-to-eat chicken products to mitigate any potential health risks.
For more information, consumers can refer to the FSIS announcement and take necessary precautions.
