Hillshire Brands Company, a St. Joseph, Missouri-based establishment, is issuing a voluntary recall of approximately 15,876 pounds of blended meat and poultry smoked sausage products due to potential contamination with extraneous materials, specifically bone fragments. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) made this announcement today.
Product Details
The ready-to-eat blended meat and poultry smoked sausage items were produced on June 14, 2023. The following products are subject to the recall:
The recalled products are marked with the establishment number “EST. 756A” on the front of the package. They were distributed to retail stores in California, Maryland, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.
Discovery of the Issue
The recall was initiated following consumer complaints received by the firm regarding bone fragments found in the product. FSIS also received one consumer complaint related to this issue.
Injury Reported
There has been one reported oral injury associated with the consumption of this product. FSIS has not received additional reports of injury or illness linked to the consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.
Consumer Actions
FSIS is concerned that some of these products may be in consumers’ refrigerators or freezers. Consumers who have purchased these products are strongly advised not to consume them. Instead, these products should be discarded or returned to the place of purchase.

FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify that recalling firms have notified their customers of the recall and have taken steps to ensure that the product is no longer available to consumers. The retail distribution list(s) will be posted on the FSIS website when available.
