Weis Markets Inc. of Sunbury, PA, is voluntarily recalling containers of Weis Quality Brownie Moose Tracks Ice Cream (48oz) because the product may contain undeclared EGG. People with an allergy or severe sensitivity to Egg risk serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume this product.
What is an egg?
An egg is an edible, oval-shaped reproductive body laid by female birds, such as chickens, ducks, and quails. Eggs are a common source of protein and nutrients in many diets around the world. They can be prepared in various ways, including boiling, frying, baking, and as ingredients in numerous recipes, from omelets to baked goods.
What is egg allergy?
An egg allergy, on the other hand, is a condition in which the immune system overreacts to proteins found in eggs. It’s one of the most common food allergies, especially in children. When someone with an egg allergy consumes eggs or foods containing eggs, their immune system identifies certain egg proteins as harmful invaders and triggers an allergic reaction. The severity of these reactions can vary, ranging from mild symptoms like hives or digestive discomfort to severe and potentially life-threatening reactions known as anaphylaxis.
The ice cream was distributed to all 197 Weis Markets retail stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, New Jersey, New York, Delaware, and West Virginia.
The affected ice cream is packaged in a round container with a UPC of 041497-01194. All sell-by dates are included in the recall as a precaution. Sell-by dates are located on the bottom of the container. An example of the container and lid has been included with this release.
To date, there have been no reported illnesses associated with this product.
The recall was initiated after discovering that the product may contain trace amounts of Egg due to processing on shared equipment in error.
Customers who have purchased this product are urged to return it to the store where it was purchased for a full refund.
