David Oppenheimer and Company I LLC, a prominent distributor, has issued a recall for all one-pound clamshells of Zespri brand organic green kiwifruit. The recall comes after government testing uncovered the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in a sample of the product.
The affected organic green kiwifruit, originating from New Zealand and distributed to North America, was repackaged locally for sale in one-pound clear plastic clamshells with the Zespri brand and UPC code 8 18849 02009 3. The fruit also bears a GTIN bar code 9400 9552. The recall encompasses products shipped between June 14, 2023, and July 7, 2023. These items were available at various retail locations across FL (Florida), GA (Georgia), IL (Illinois), IN (Indiana), KY (Kentucky), MI (Michigan), NC (North Carolina), NY (New York), OH (Ohio), PA (Pennsylvania), TN (Tennessee), TX (Texas), VA (Virginia), and WI (Wisconsin) correspond to the U.S. states
The recall was initiated following a routine sampling by the Kentucky Department for Public Health on July 7, 2023. David Oppenheimer and Company I LLC promptly collaborated with Zespri to track the affected product through the supply chain to two specific grower lots. Subsequently, distribution of organic green kiwifruit from these lots has been halted as investigations continue in cooperation with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
It’s important to note that no illnesses related to the consumption of these products have been reported to date. However, as a precautionary measure, consumers are strongly advised not to consume the recalled organic green kiwifruit and to dispose of it immediately.
