(The voluntary recall by Abbott of specific lots of 2 fl oz/59 ml bottles of ready-to-feed liquid products is not anticipated to have an impact on the supply of infant formula in the United States.)

Abbott is starting a proactive, voluntary recall of specific lots of 2 fluid ounce/59-millilitre bottles of ready-to-feed liquid products for infants and children under the labels Similac® Pro-Total ComfortTM, Similac® 360 Total Care®, Similac® 360 Total Care Sensitive, Similac® Special Care® 24, Similac Stage 1, Similac® NeoSure®, Similac Water (Sterilized), and Pedialyte Electro The items that are subject to the recall were produced at our factory in Columbus, Ohio.

These goods are being recalled because a tiny minority (less than 1% of bottles) in the lots being recalled may not have had their bottle lids on tightly enough to prevent spoiling. Gastrointestinal symptoms including diarrhoea and vomiting may develop if rotten food is consumed.

This recall does not apply to any other brands of liquid or powder formulas or other nutritional products made at our facility in Columbus or anywhere else in our global network of nutrition manufacturing facilities. Additionally, no formulas based on amino acids or on metabolic nutrition are included.

This recall won’t have a significant effect on the general supply of infant formula in the United States because it amounts to less than one day’s worth of the ounces of infant formula fed nationwide. On a different production line, Abbott is continuing to make Similac 2 fluid ounce/59-millilitre Ready-to-Feed liquid formula products for hospitals and medical offices. In addition to expanded production across our worldwide manufacturing network, Similac infant formula will continue to be produced in alternate product sizes and formats for delivery to retail locations.

One lot of the recalled products was sent to Barbados, Bermuda, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Jamaica, St. Croix, and St. Thomas; two lots were sent to Canada, Curacao, Panama, and Trinidad and Tobago. The products were primarily distributed to hospitals, some doctors’ offices, distributors, and retailers in the United States, including Puerto Rico.

Consumer Advice:

Do not utilize any products that are subject to a recall. Contact a healthcare expert if you have any queries about feeding or your child’s health. Visit similacrecall.com to read a list of impacted lot numbers or use the lot number checker to see whether your product is affected.

Joe Manning, executive vice president of nutritional goods at Abbott, said, “We take our obligation to produce high-quality products extremely seriously. “We internally detected the problem, are resolving it, and will work with our clients to minimize disruption and provide them with the items they require.”
